Microfiber vs. Cotton: Battle Between the Sheets

Microfiber vs. Cotton: Battle Between the Sheets

Are you a warm sleeper or do you get chilly at night?
Do you prefer warm & cozy or cool & crisp?

Sheets are not one size fits all! There are a few key points to keep in mind to hunt down your perfect match.
Not sure? Here are the differences between Cotton and Microfiber:

Cotton:

A tale as old as time. This age old classic is popular for a reason.
Fine cottons such as Egyptian cotton are considered amongst the finest quality sheets available because they are made of highest quality cotton, called long staple cotton.

Okay, so what does this mean for you?

The longer the fiber the better because it creates stronger and finer yarns. This makes them more comfortable and soft with each washing.

Pros:

  • Cotton is more moisture and heat resistant than other fabrics, as it wicks away moisture and heat so that it doesn’t penetrate the fabric.
  • Generally more soft and comfortable compared to synthetic fabrics & tends to soften even more over time.
  • Easier dirt & stain removal
  • Cotton fabrics tend to pill less over time.

Cons:

  • Cotton bedding needs a bit of extra care when it comes to washing + drying.
  • You might see some more wrinkles in a cotton set of sheets vs. Microfiber.
  • Because they are better quality, cotton may have a higher price tag.

Microfiber:

A manufactured fiber to fit your budget! You’ve probably been seeing this label a lot lately.
Microfiber consists entirely of polyester, a polymer, and a nylon byproduct, both originating from petroleum.
The way the fibers are woven together will determine the quality of your microfiber sheets.

Pros:

  • It’s highly durable & long-lasting
  • Less likely to fade after multiple washes.
  • It retains its original shape over your bed & after washing. Its fabric integrity also makes it less prone to wrinkles.
  • Relatively inexpensive and can fit any budget.

Cons:

  • Due to its temperature absorbing abilities, microfiber bedding may feel overwhelmingly warm and uncomfortable during hot summers.
  • More likely to pill after many washes, especially if the quality is cheap.
  • Microfiber also tends to absorb oils, dirt, and liquids more easily compared to other fabrics.
  • Those who have very sensitive and delicate skin may find microfiber bedding slightly irritating and uncomfortable to the touch

In summary, choose the sheets that work best for you!
Everyone sleeps differently! Choosing the right sheets may mean the difference between a night of beauty sleep or tossing and turning.
