We're proud to share the insights and inspiration of Suzanne in this exclusive interview that unveils the heart and soul of our company.

1. What inspired you to start Skylark+Owl Linen Co. and dive into the world of bedding?

Skylark+Owl Linen Co. was a collaborative effort between my daughter, husband and myself. Our goal was to create bedding that not only feels good but also enhances the visual appeal of bedrooms by combining quality craftsmanship and natural fibers at affordable prices.

 

With Eden Textile, we have 75 years of experience providing linens and towels to hotels throughout Canada and we recognized a growing consumer demand to have quality bedding available for their homes. Launching Skylark+Owl Linen Co. was a way to fill this much needed void and we are excited for what’s to come!

2. How do you stay inspired and innovative in your approach to designing new products or collections?

Once a year we attend the largest textile trade show in the world which fills me with all kinds of inspiration. But more importantly, we draw a lot of inspiration from our customers. We listen to their insights, feedback, and suggestions to ensure that our designs and products resonate with their needs and preferences.

3. What do you do to prioritize work-life balance and self-care amidst the demands of entrepreneurship?

When I am not at work, I enjoy all outdoor activities. I have a wonderful group of friends that I golf with once a week! I am also really blessed to still be having weekly bike rides with my 85 yr old Dad and sisters. Nothing compares to the joy of spending quality time with my family!

4. Looking back on your journey, what achievements are you most proud of, and what lessons have you learned along the way?

It has been an incredible journey, but I am most proud of the fact that we were able to to develop 4 new bedding lines during covid. This was not easy and I still marvel at what we were able to accomplish over Zoom! I am very lucky to have such a great team!

5. Can you share a memorable customer testimonial or success story that encapsulates the impact of Skylark+Owl Linen Co.?

There are too many to share! I often get thank you cards from customers telling me how helpful we have been. Among them was Marlene who expressed her love for our Refined Pillows and our Essential Percale Sheet Set and Duvet Cover. In her own words, “I am in heaven! The sheets feel great. I wish I did this years ago!”

She also shared her love for the tote bags that her products came in. Using spare material for our packaging aligns with our commitment to sustainability. She was thrilled with this eco-friendly initiative and was pleasantly surprised with the polished finish of the bags and shared, “I am a tote/purse/handbag hoarder and this just fed my addiction!” 

6. In what ways do you prioritize customer feedback and incorporate it into the continuous improvement of products and services?

Customer feedback is so important to our business. I really enjoy it when I am able to speak directly with customers. It is rare to receive calls from a business, so our customers are always surprised when we reach out by phone.  Personally engaging with them brings me so much joy and we carefully consider all suggestions. If it makes sense to incorporate the feedback or suggestion we do our best to do so!

7. If you could offer advice to your younger self, what words of wisdom would you impart?

Embrace Change: Encourage your younger self to embrace change and see it as an opportunity for growth and personal development. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and being adaptable and open to change will serve you well in both your personal and professional endeavors!
