Are Silk Pillowcases worth it?

Silk Pillowcases can be worth it for many people due to their benefits! Many find the investment worthwhile for the improvements in sleep quality and overall beauty routine. Skylark+Owl’s Silk Pillowcase is a dream for your hair and skin, allowing you to look and feel your best the minute you wake up!

Smooth, Soft Sleep

Recommended by dermatologists, hair stylists, and beauty experts, silk pillowcases are proven to be gentler on your hair and skin. Ditch the friction caused by other materials, and enjoy the smooth, soothing benefits of silk pillowcases.

What are the benefits of using a Silk Pillowcase?

Silk Pillowcase Benefits include: healthier hair, skin-saving, anti-aging, cooling, hypoallergenic, and better sleep

  1. Healthier hair - Much softer than cotton, the Silk Pillowcase preserves the hair fiber, helps tames frizz, and reduces breakage, giving you smoother, healthier hair.
  2. Skin-saving - The smooth texture of the Silk Pillowcase gently caresses your skin, allowing it to breathe freely without absorbing your skincare products! As a result, there is significantly less dryness and tightness in the skin, and just a smooth, supple and silky texture.
  3. Anti-aging - The Silk Pillowcase is less prone to developing creases, reducing the chance of these lines leaving impressions on your skin which could lead to wrinkles. Wake up feeling fresh-faced with luminous skin.
  4. Hypoallergenic - Silk's breathability, natural hypoallergenic properties, and antibacterial qualities make it ideal for promoting better sleep and overall skin health.
  5. Temperature-regulating - Silk has natural temperature-regulating properties, making it ideal for cool sleepers.
  6. Better sleep - Our Silk Pillowcases are designed to promote a restful night's sleep due to their soft texture and unmatched comfortability.

What is the difference between Sateen vs. Satin vs. Silk?

  • Silk: A natural protein fiber produced by silkworms. Pure silk offers unique benefits such as breathability and hypoallergenic properties.
  • Satin: Not a material itself, but a weaving technique. Satin weave creates a fabric with a smooth, shiny surface on one side and a duller back. It can be made from various materials, including silk, polyester, or nylon. Satin may have that smooth, silky feel, but it does not possess the same qualities as pure silk.
  • Sateen: Specifically refers to a cotton fabric woven with a satin weave. This gives it a soft, lustrous surface similar to silk or satin, but at a much more affordable price point. Generally easier to care for due to the cotton content.

Why choose Mulberry Silk for your pillowcase?

Renowned for its exceptionally smooth fibers, mulberry silk is known as the best quality of silk and offers the ultimate in comfort and beauty benefits. It minimizes friction, retains moisture, and regulates temperature, leading to smoother hair, radiant skin, and a cooler sleep.

Mulberry silkworms feed exclusively on mulberry leaves, resulting in the finest silk quality. This translates to a luxurious feel, high durability, and a naturally hypoallergenic nature.

Indulge in Ultimate Luxury: 6A Grade Mulberry Silk

For an unparalleled sleep experience, Skylark+Owl pillowcases are crafted from the finest 6A grade mulberry silk. This premium grade represents the pinnacle of silk quality, meticulously evaluated based on factors like luster, color consistency, fiber length, and minimal impurities.

By choosing 6A grade mulberry silk, you're investing in:

  • Superior Smoothness: Experience the unmatched softness and luxurious feel of the highest quality silk.
  • Enhanced Durability: Longer fibers and minimal imperfections ensure lasting strength and beauty.
  • Vibrant Colors: The exceptional grade of silk allows for rich, even coloring that won't fade.
Other Types of Silk:
  • Tussah Silk (Wild Silk) comes from wild silkworms that feed on various trees and shrubs. It is less expensive than mulberry silk and has coarser fibers compared to mulberry silk. It is less effective in reducing friction and retaining moisture, which is not ideal for sensitive skin.
  • Eri Silk is produced by eri silkworms that feed on castor leaves. While it is also soft, lightweight, and naturally hypoallergenic, it is not as strong or durable as mulberry silk.

How do I wash and take care of my Silk Pillowcase?

Gentle Care for Silk Pillowcases

For optimal results, hand-wash your silk pillowcases in cool water. Rinse them thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Remember, silk is delicate when wet. Avoid wringing or twisting the pillowcases, as this can damage the weaker, wet fibers.

While machine washing is possible, use the gentlest cycle available. Consider using a mesh laundry bag, especially if your machine has a center agitator. This will help prevent snags and twists in the delicate silk fibers. Avoid bleach entirely.

Silk pillowcases air dry quickly, usually within a few hours. No ironing necessary.

Dry Cleaning with Caution

Although dry cleaning is an option, avoid the use of Trichloroethylene (TCE).  Silk is primarily composed of proteins, including fibroin and sericin and TCE has the ability to break down these proteins, leading to a weakening of the fabric's structure. This degradation can result in loss of strength and durability, making the silk more prone to tearing and fraying.

Choosing the Right Detergent

Regular laundry detergents tend to be alkaline, which can harm silk. Since delicate detergents are typically formulated to have a neutral pH , they are a safer choice. To further protect your silk pillowcases, use a small amount of detergent to prevent buildup.

By following these tips, you can ensure the longevity and luxurious feel of your Silk Pillowcases.
